Tips and Tricks

Her are just a few mod tips that I hope aren't too played out on everybodies web sites. I will try to post more as soon as I can. But first and foremost......The Import Killer would like to issue this formal disclaimer; I will not be responsible for anything you do to your car. Most of these mods are easily reversable. NO LIFEGAURD ON DUTY! Perform these mods at your own risk.

Wanna save 45 to 60$$?

Clear your side markers out on your cavy yourself!! I did. It's fast. It's easy. It's safe for all ages. And it's a great gift idea for that special someone. All kidding aside. The side markers that are right next to your headlights can be cleared out easily. Just remove them by first removing your headlight assembly....i.e....remove the two screws that are located at the top of the headlight carriage. Your headlights will fall of in your hands. Now you have accesss to your side markers. Remove them by taking the three( what I call cheesy-nuts because they are hollow) off and unplug the bulb. Now comes the easy part. Take a good sized flat head screwdriver and gently pry the clear cover off the backing starting at the middle and work your way to the ends. The pointed end will brake loose first. As long as you don't see any cracks in the clear cover while you are doing this, all the cracking sounds that you here are progress. It will eventually just fall into two pieces. This is the good part. REMOVE THE ORANGE INSERT FROM THE CLEAR COVER . Vwaaa -Laa! Presto chango you now have clear marker lenses! Just glue the cover back on the backing using epoxy or model glue,(DO NOT USE SUPER GLUE,the fumes will cloud the lens cover!!) Let it dry for a sufficient amount of time and put it back on the car. Now if you dont have alot of patience, by all means get a trusted friend to do the cover removal process because the lens is pretty fragile. I did both with only an unnoticable crack on one.

Relocate IAT sensor: (intake air temperature sensor)

Doing this mod will make the computer see colder air temps in the intake air. In turn it will richen the fuel supply.......but not much. The IAT is the sensor that tells the computer how hot or cold the air temp is in the intake tube. It is located on the side of the OEM intake S-tube. Remove it and cover the hole up with black tape or a plug of some sort. Then just basically splice on some extra wire and re-route the wires and the IAT somewhere where there is outside air constantly blowing on it.WARNING!! (Make sure all the wires are secured and not hanging all over extremely hot engine parts). Now your done. I mounted mine right next to the hood release latch in that little area at the nose of the hood.

Shaving badges and molding

Give your Cavy that smooth look. Make people say "Damn, what kind of car was that that just handed me my ass?!" hehe[badges] those pesky little chevy emblems that take away the smooth lines of the your awesome ride. Shaving your badges sets you apart from those crazy badge-happy imports. So what you will need is a hair dryer(probably with an extension cord so you dont have to pull up next to the bathroom window). You will also need some car wax. Heat up the emblem for a minute or so and it will pull right off. You can get the left over sticky stuff off by rubbing it with your fingers or use some liquid goo remover. Then wax the area real good and your done. You can do the same thing with your side molding too, just on a larger scale. It is wise to use dental floss to remove the side molding, or at least to get it started. Just wrap it around your hands and use it like a saw. Good idea to wear some type of glove when doing this...lol

DRL disable: (Daytime Running Lights)

The only draw back to this method is that your emergency brake light will be on constantly. But that can be taken care of by putting black tape over the E-brake light, behind the instrument panel cover. Now, all you have to do is take the center console off. I am thinking that this might be different on the automatic tranny cavys. It will be held down by 5(five) 10mm screws and 2(two) phillips head screws. Now locate the switch that is right at the back of the emergency brake handle. It is basically an open/close paddle type ground. It will have a wire connected to it. It is just a ground, so don't be alarmed. Unplug the connecter and connect a piece of wire to it and reground it permanantly. All done, no more DRL's. Put the console back on and your done.

I would tell you how to trick out your ignition, but you can't know all the Killer's tricks.
